Adding voice. Adding insight. Adding impact.

New Alliance adds leadership to mental health and addictions care in the Halton Region.

In the ever-evolving landscape of mental health and addiction care, collaboration and an integrated approach are essential to ensuring individuals in need are not left behind or overlooked. In the Halton region, the Mental Health + Addictions Alliance is bringing together community health partners to provide leadership, insight, and innovative solutions to address the complex challenges faced by individuals navigating mental health and addiction care pathways.

Adding Leadership
Six community health agencies make up the MH+A Alliance: CMHA-Halton, Support House, ADAPT, Summit Housing & Outreach Programs, HOPE Place Centres, and STRIDE. Individually, each brings decades of experience in specialized community mental health and addictions care for clients living in Halton. Together, we offer a united front that champions more effective collaboration within the health and support system.

The MHA+Alliance collectively represents a $32.7M footprint in the Halton region, including 122,504 combined agency visits and 13,881 people served. The formation of the MH+A Alliance was sparked by a United Way grant, which sought ways to consolidate community health services more strategically and holistically.

Adding Value
Since forming, the MH+A Alliance has established partnerships with political, health and social sector leaders. It has been integrated into the governance structure of the Burlington Ontario Health Team. As a collective, the MH+A Alliance also works collaboratively with the Connected Care Halton to bring about more resources and support to those facing the most barriers to health.

Adding Clear Pathways
A critical challenge in mental health and addiction support is the complexity of navigating care. As experts in community health, the MH+A Alliance works to simplify the experience for clients while creating clear pathways, which studies show improve individual well-being and create value across healthcare, social services, and justice sectors.

The MH+A Alliance will leverage data, key metrics and client perspectives to inform collaboration, decision-making, and implement best practices in mental health and addiction services. Our goal is to build value in the system through:

  • Bringing novel solutions to complex issues at the system tables in which we lead or participate.

  • Leading the creation of joint EDI training materials across our Alliance and sector staff.

  • Creating Data Storyboards that illustrate the client experience through data for more cohesive system planning.

  • Leading the design of Integrated Care Pathways for clients across community-based mental health providers to de-silo and de-mystify care for more seamless care.

  • Co-creating services with clients and caregivers while removing barriers to equitable access for clients across our community.

  • Building continuous quality improvement across Alliance organizations to maximize our collective impact.

The MH+A Alliance will be publishing our work via our website and LinkedIn.
